Two Abu Dhabi-backed investors disclosed positions worth more than $1 billion in BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF IBIT as of the end of last year, according to newly filed U.S. regulatory reports.
Mubadala Investment Company, Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund, reported holding 12,702,323 shares of IBIT valued at roughly $631 million. A separate filing from Al Warda Investments, an Abu Dhabi government-linked investment vehicle, showed it held 8,218,712 shares, worth about $408 million. Together, the two holdings total just over 20.9 million shares and more than $1.0 billion in disclosed value at the reporting date.
Mubadala’s filing also shows its IBIT position grew sharply over the quarter. The fund increased its share count by about 46% from its prior (third-quarter) report, after holding about 8.1 million shares for much of last year.
The disclosures arrive as IBIT remains the largest U.S. spot bitcoin ETF, with assets of around $58 billion, even after bitcoin’s recent pullback reduced the fund’s market value.
The reports were made through 13F filings, which institutional investment managers submit quarterly to the SEC when they oversee at least $100 million in assets. Because 13Fs only reflect certain long U.S. equity and options holdings, they provide a partial snapshot of overall exposure rather than a full view of portfolio strategy.
