Key Highlights

  • X Money beta screenshots shared by William Shatner show a simple interface with Account, Rewards, Activity tabs, and a yield feature advertised up to 6% APY.

  • Musk amplified discussion around X’s financial roadmap as the company prepares Smart Cashtags in-timeline market data with links to trading partners.

  • X product head Nikita Bier said X is not acting as a brokerage and will not handle trade execution.

X Money, X’s upcoming peer-to-peer payments product, appeared in leaked beta screenshots this week after William Shatner posted images showing a clean wallet-style UI built around three tabs – Account, Rewards, Activity – along with deposits, transfers, and an advertised yield component.

The leak landed as X continues to tease Smart Cashtags, a feature set aimed at turning ticker-like tags into richer financial modules, such as data and market context in the timeline, with the ability to route users to external partners for trading.

Beta Interface Details

Shatner’s screenshots show basic wallet actions (send, request, deposit) and a “Rewards” area that includes an advertised yield offer up to 6% APY. Several recaps also note balances being held through a banking partner and presented as FDIC-insured up to standard limits, based on the UI language and screenshots circulating online.

Trading: Data + Links, Not an X-Run Brokerage

Speculation online jumped to “X will add crypto/stock trading,” but X product head Nikita Bier pushed back: X is building financial data tools and integrations, while trade execution would be handled by partners, not by X itself.

X Money Rollout

Musk has said X Money is already running in internal/closed beta, with an external beta targeted in 1–2 months.

Separately, multiple reports say X’s payments entity has pursued money-transmitter licensing on a state-by-state basis in the U.S., with prior updates noting coverage in 40+ states plus Washington, D.C.

Everything-App Ambition

X Money is positioned as a step toward Musk’s “everything app” vision—payments first, with additional financial utilities layered on via partnerships rather than X becoming a full brokerage.
