Kalshi Bans And Fines MrBeast Editor In Insider-Trading Case, CFTC Flags Potential Violations
Key Highlights
Kalshi said it disciplined two users for trading on non-public information, including a visual effects editor tied to MrBeast’s “Beast Games.”
The MrBeast employee was suspended for two years and hit with a penalty above $20,000 after placing about $4,000 in show-related trades, Kalshi said.
The CFTC issued an advisory citing the cases as potential legal violations and said exchanges are the “first line of defense” for policing insider trading in event contracts.
Kalshi has banned and fined two users for what it described as insider-trading activity on its regulated prediction market, including an employee of MrBeast’s production company who allegedly traded on outcomes tied to content he worked on.
Kalshi named Artem Kaptur, a visual effects editor associated with MrBeast (James Donaldson), and said he placed roughly $4,000 in contracts on MrBeast-related markets while in possession of non-public information. Kalshi said it imposed a two-year suspension and a total penalty exceeding $20,000.
MrBeast’s company, Beast Industries, said it is investigating the matter and said it has “no tolerance” for employees using proprietary information.
Kalshi also disclosed a second enforcement action involving Kyle Langford, whom it said violated platform rules by trading in a market tied to his own political candidacy. The CFTC’s advisory described a penalty that included disgorgement, an additional fine, and a multi-year suspension of access to the exchange.
