Key Highlights
The Agent Wallet opened early access on June 8, 2026 with 200 spots for traders and developers, offering AI agents full DeFi access across EVM chains and Hyperliquid, including swaps, perpetuals, prediction markets, and liquidity provision.
Guard Mode, the default setting, lets users define daily spending limits and allowlisted protocols; any transaction falling outside those rules is paused for human approval via two-factor authentication before it can execute.
Every transaction runs automatic simulation, threat scanning, and MEV protection before execution, with losses on transactions deemed safe covered by up to $10,000 through the wallet's Transaction Protection program.
MetaMask launched its Agent Wallet on June 8, opening early access for a limited group of 200 traders and developers. The product is designed to let autonomous AI agents execute DeFi transactions on a user's behalf across EVM-compatible chains and Hyperliquid, while keeping the wallet self-custodial and the user in control of risk parameters at all times. A broader public release is expected later in the summer of 2026.
The wallet operates in two modes. Guard Mode, the default, gives users the ability to set daily spending limits, specify which protocols an agent is permitted to interact with, and define policy rules that govern agent behavior. When an agent attempts a transaction that falls outside those parameters, the wallet pauses execution and requires human approval through two-factor authentication before proceeding. Beast Mode is an opt-in setting for traders and developers who prefer fewer interruptions; security checks continue to run in this mode, and two-factor authentication is still required for transactions flagged as malicious.
Security infrastructure is built into every transaction regardless of mode. Before any trade executes, the wallet runs transaction simulation, threat scanning, and MEV protection automatically. Transactions identified as malicious require human sign-off via 2FA. For transactions that pass all security checks and are marked safe, MetaMask's Transaction Protection program covers losses of up to $10,000, offering a financial backstop for cases where a threat slips through screening.
The Agent Wallet supports the full range of DeFi activity that institutional and retail users typically execute manually, including spot swaps, perpetual futures, prediction market positions, and liquidity provisioning. The launch positions MetaMask at the intersection of the AI agent trend and onchain finance, an area that has drawn growing developer attention as autonomous trading infrastructure matures. It also reflects a broader recognition across the crypto industry that agent-driven DeFi access requires security frameworks built specifically for non-human actors operating at speed and scale.
