Key Highlights

  • Javier Milei exchanged seven phone calls with crypto lobbyist Mauricio Novelli on the night of the LIBRA token launch.

  • The calls were reportedly logged around the same period Milei promoted LIBRA on X, reviving questions about his earlier claim that he had no direct link to the project.

  • LIBRA surged to a multibillion-dollar valuation after Milei’s post before collapsing, triggering fraud probes and political fallout in Argentina.

Argentine President Javier Milei is facing renewed pressure over the LIBRA scandal after reports that he exchanged seven phone calls with Mauricio Novelli, a central figure in the token’s launch, on the night the memecoin went live. The reported call activity occurred around the same time as when Milei published a promotional post about LIBRA on X.

The fresh scrutiny runs counter to Milei’s earlier effort to distance himself from the project following the token’s collapse. LIBRA briefly soared after its endorsement in February 2025, then crashed within hours, wiping out much of its value and prompting criminal complaints, political backlash, and an ongoing federal investigation in Argentina.

The reported evidence also adds to a broader case forming around Novelli, who has been identified in multiple reports as a key intermediary between Milei and the people behind LIBRA. Separate reporting has described alleged agreements, payments, and phone records recovered during the investigation, though the contents of the calls themselves remain unknown.
