SpaceX's IPO, filed with the SEC, is targeting a valuation above $1.5 trillion, potentially making it one of the largest public offerings in stock market history.
Elon Musk's aerospace company quietly built one of the largest corporate Bitcoin positions in existence. The S-1 filing, published on May 20, revealed that SpaceX began accumulating BTC in 2021, well ahead of many institutional investors who entered the market later.
With 18,712 BTC on its balance sheet, SpaceX now holds more Bitcoin than Tesla, the other Musk-led company, which carries 11,509 BTC. The position places SpaceX seventh among tracked corporate Bitcoin treasuries worldwide.
The cost basis of $661 million implies an average acquisition price of around $35,324 per Bitcoin. At current prices near $77,000, the position represents an unrealized gain of approximately $789 million, nearly doubling the original investment.
The disclosure adds a significant crypto dimension to what was already an unprecedented offering. With a valuation target above $1.5 trillion, the IPO would rank among the largest in stock market history, and Bitcoin now sits at the center of its corporate treasury strategy.
